Mahindra India

Mahindra has been India’s uncontested No. 1 tractor manufacturer and the world’s biggest tractor producer by volume for over three decades. Mahindra Tractors is an important component of the Mahindra Group’s $19.4 billion Farm Division, the flagship business of Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Sector (FES).

The business is India’s biggest tractor producer, with a capacity of 150,000 tractors per year. It is the market leader in India – the world’s biggest tractor market – and has been since 1983. Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, Maharashtra, and the southern states account for most of its sales.

Mahindra Tractors began producing 15HP tractors in Rajkot in 2011 using the brand Yuvraj. The Rajkot factory is a joint venture between Deepak Diesel Pvt Ltd and Mahindra & Mahindra. The factory is capable of producing up to 30000 tractors each year.

These excellent engines are capable of withstanding prolonged and strenuous operating conditions with ease.

Additionally, Mahindra is well-known for its high-performance engines. The company’s diesel engines are capable of powering vehicles weighing up to 400 kg. In 2015, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M) entered into a strategic partnership in the agricultural machinery field with MHI subsidiary Mitsubishi Agricultural Machinery Co. Ltd. This meant that Mistubishi made some of the Mahindra’s tractor engines from then onwards under this contract. This was as a result of an on-lock technology referred to as The Mahindra mCRD technology.

Later, they introduced the Mahindra GX 3600, the lightest 4WD Puddling specialist tractor in the Mitsubishi Mahindra Agricultural Machinery Co. Ltd engine range in Japan. This tractor was launched in Sri Lanka in collaboration with Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC (DIMO).

The Mahindra GX3600 was the brand’s flagship vehicle, with established engineering and performance in various markets worldwide. Since then, Mitsubishi has produced many of Mahindra’s tractor engine brands.

Mitsubishi components are found in a wide variety of machine manufacturers. Mitsubishi diesel engines are used in excavation equipment manufactured by Kobelco, Tadano, Sumitomo, Furukawa, Kato, CAT, and Hyundai.

The Mahindra mCRD technology

Mahindra’s mCRD technology, or Mahindra Common Rail Diesel Fuel Injection Engine in its entirety, is the direct consequence of a $30 million investment by Mahindra in Mitsubishi to rethink and re-engineer their Tier IV engines for a more simple and user-friendly solution. 

Exhaust after-treatment is how this technology works. Palladium and platinum catalysts oxidize hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide to form carbon dioxide and water. As a consequence, they developed engines that do not need the use of a diesel particulate filter (DPF). This results in no extra heat or burn-off and simplifies the operator’s job. 

Mahindra mCRD engines offer the special benefit of fulfilling Tier IV emissions requirements without the need of a DPF while still enabling tractors to push, pull, and lift more.

They have manufactured tractors for other businesses and marketed them under a variety of brand names. TYM builds its tractors. They have also started up its CUTs for Mahindra for some years, and the two firms have always been reliant on one another when it comes to tractor components. 

TYM was known to manufacture Mahindra engines for a brief time until they were discontinued. TYM now assembles engines for many Mahindra tractor models. However, it is important to note that the engines manufactured by TYM were distinct from those utilized in their tractors.

Petrol engines for Mahindra Tractors

Mahindra does not produce tractors with petrol engines. However, Mahindra chose to manufacture petrol-powered engines for its tractors in 2018. Diesel engines mainly powered the company’s vehicle lineup. The overall preference for diesel cars has decreased as a result of numerous legislative obstacles aimed at reducing pollution, as well as the reduction of the price differential between diesel and gasoline.

This would boost investors’ confidence in the business’s profits, which was expected to be strengthened further as the company intends to expand its gasoline car options over the next 2-3 years and develop a cost-effective solution for diesel versions to comply with new emissions standards. This would help the group’s automotive segment’s profits, which have been shaky recently.

M&M said at the analyst meeting that it had made considerable progress toward building a petrol engine with a displacement of 0.6 to 2 liters that can provide more torque at fewer revolutions per minute. This would facilitate the introduction of petrol tractor engines capable of performing on a level with diesel versions. This goal has not been completely realized, but these tractors are scheduled to begin production in 2022.
